Evacuation Warning Issued For South Lake Tahoe All the Way to Stateline

Map of evacuation in Tahoe. Red is mandatory and yellow is a warning

Expanded evacuations have hit the Tahoe Basin, with the growing Caldor Fire bringing an Evacuation Warning to South Lake Tahoe all the way to the Nevada border.

CalFire released its updated evacuation orders on Sunday night, calling for mandatory evacuations just east of Echo Summit, including areas of Meyers and the entire Desolation Wilderness. The evacuations also put the entire southern region of Tahoe on edge as the tourist-favorite town of South Lake Tahoe, with its more than 20,000 residents, have now all been warned that a mandatory evacuation could be coming soon.

The Caldor Fire is moving swiftly through the Sierra, currently burning near Echo Summit and Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort. Officials remain determined to educate the greater Tahoe region on the importance of evacuating early, especially considering the lack of roadways out of the region. With Highway 50 and Highway 88 both closed due to the fire, there are currently only three roads to leave town. This could create a dangerous traffic jam in the event of a mandatory evacuation.

Here are the current evacuations as of 9 pm Sunday:
