A Look Inside Issue #14 of the Active NorCal Magazine

Spring has sprung in Northern California (even if the weather doesn’t seem that way), which means Issue #14 of the Active NorCal Magazine is getting ready to hit mailboxes soon. We had an incredible response to Issue #13, which was our first print product since we went fully digital in 2016. Now, we’re using reviews and responses to make the next issue even better.

Subscribe to the magazine here

With the relaunch of the print magazine, we went back to our roots of long-form written content, specially designed to inspire adventure in our region. As the subscriber base grows, we will continue to reinvest in the product. I would love to have our issues surpass 100 or even 200 pages in the coming years.

If you haven’t subscribed yet, we’d love to include you in our send-out of the relaunch. A subscription includes two issues of the magazine along with two supplemental pieces that we know you’ll love (we’re going to announce those real soon). Sign up today to be included in all of our giveaways coming in the next two months.

To give you an idea of what you can expect in Issue #14, here are the articles we’re finishing up:

Hike Under the Tallest Bridge in California to a Stunning Man-Made Waterfall

When I moved to Sacramento, I knew I was a short drive from many great outdoor destinations, but I didn’t think I’d be able to find anything cool nearby. Boy, was I wrong. My favorite hike in the area is right under California’s tallest bridge, and the waterfall payoff is absolutely spectacular.

How Wolves Have Returned to Northern California

Other than water allocation across the state, probably the most controversial topic we regularly discuss is the reintroduction of wolves in California. Over the past decade, wolves have come back into the region and formed numerous packs across NorCal. We discuss how they got here, along with the benefits and issues associated with their growing presence.

NorCal’s Best Lake Camping Destinations

As spring turns to summer in NorCal, the best way to battle the incessant heat is to stay next to a beautiful body of water. Luckily, we have those in spades. We will highlight our favorite lake camping destinations, along with best practices, accommodations, and nearby hikes.

The Iconic Hikes of Northern California

We are lucky to be living in an area full of world-famous hikes. From strenuous to easy, mountains to waterfalls, and everything in between, we’ll highlight the most iconic hikes in NorCal. For you true outdoor adventurers, it will serve as a perfect bucket list.

The Science Below Lassen Volcanic National Park

Steeping into Lassen Volcanic National Park is like traveling to a new planet. It looks (and smells) different than our typical surroundings. Why is that? Well, there are a series of scientific events happening below the surface that make for an incredible experience above ground. We dive deep into that science.

The Best Food Stops for NorCal RoadTrippers

Road trippin’ is a great way to see some of the great outdoor destinations in our region, and it’s also a good way to experience our great food stops. We highlight the best places to get some grub on the most popular road trips in NorCal.

Fire Lookouts You Can Rent

Most people spend their trips staying at a hotel or AirBnB. For the truly adventurous, you can stay in one of the many fire lookouts throughout NorCal available to rent. Without a housekeeper or room service, it’s a little more rugged than a typical vacation. And that’s exactly why we like it.

Finally, here’s a quick look at what you might see on the cover:
