Winter Storm Watch: 3 More Feet of Snow Forecast for NorCal Mountains Through Sunday

It was a spectacular start to winter in Northern California when a the “bomb cyclone” storm brought 2 feet of snow to the mountains, closing high-elevation roads and causing holiday travel headaches. And while the sun will shine on Thanksgiving day, another storm is heading our way and expected to bring even more snowpack.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for NorCal beginning on Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday evening. The upcoming storm is expected to bring snow all the way down to 3,000 feet elevation, with accumulations of up to 3 feet.

Even though this will certainly bring more travel headaches throughout NorCal, the ski community is celebrating the new snow as most Tahoe ski resorts plan to open Friday and Saturday. Mt. Shasta Ski Park also looks like it’s on the verge of opening:

The weekend storm will bring even more snowpack to the mountains, as most ski resorts reported snowfall of over a foot this week:

As we basically missed out on any precipitation during the fall, it seems like Mother Nature was just saving herself for a massive downpour. Winter is officially here in a BIG way.
