Webcam Footage Shows the Caldor Fire Burning Through Sierra-at-Tahoe

The Caldor Fire continues its destructive path through the Sierra, quickly moving east towards South Lake Tahoe. The fire has destroyed hundreds of structures on its way to 156,000 acres burned, but its devastation might just be getting started.

We’ve long known the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort sits in the path of the fire. Now, webcam footage from the U.S. Forest Service shows the fire has arrived at the resort. Here are current images as of 9 pm Sunday:

Of course, Sierra-at-Tahoe is far from the only place that’s being impact by the fire. Evacuations have expanded to now include Meyers, just on the edge of South Lake Tahoe. With a major wind event forecast for Monday and Tuesday, firefighters will have one heck of a fight to temper the flames in these more populated areas.

The Leek Springs Webcam also shows the fire active in the area:

On Sunday night, Sierra-at-Tahoe shared pictures of its parking lot packed with firefighters and equipment ready to defend the millions of dollars in structures and equipment on the premises:

“We are prepared to fight the good fight with fire crews + apparatus on-site,” wrote the ski park on social media. “No fire as of this morning, but as the #caldorfire creeps closer to Sierra, please send your prayers for protection for all fire personnel as they continue the battle to protect your Playground.”

Let’s hope for the best in this terrible situation.
