Over the years I’ve seen a lot of videos of people summiting Mount Shasta. This one’s the best.
Cody Townsend and a group of professional skiers, mountain guides and filmmakers headed to Mount Shasta, California for an adventure like no other. The group shows the long ascent of Mt. Shasta, from Bunny Flat up Misery Hill, and skiing all the way down to the parking lot. The professionally produced film is part of Townsend’s “The FIFTY” series, in which he attempts to complete all of the ski descents chronicled in the book “The 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America.”
This short film does a great job in describing the aura of the mountain, both as an outdoor playground and as a spiritual destination. The riders talk about their love of the active volcano right before they ski down to the bottom. And the best part of the video is how it shows a unique insight into how skiers make decisions in the backcountry, how they plan, navigate and safely move through the mountains and the people that dedicate their lives to the mountains.
If you have any interest in Mount Shasta, any at all, this video will have you on the edge of your seat for 11 minutes. This might be the best Mount Shasta summit video ever produced.
