VIDEO: Yosemite Concessions Boss Out After Hitting Golf Ball into Protected Meadow

The boss of concessions at Yosemite National Park is now out of a job after video of him driving a golf ball into a protected meadow in the park circulated online.

A video of Michael Grisar, who was the vice president of operations for Aramark at Yosemite, surfaced on his wife’s Instagram account of him driving golf balls into Ahwahnee Meadow towards the iconic dome of the park. He is heard saying in video “that hit the rock.” Although it was quickly deleted, the video was recorded by a local worker and began circulating online.

Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman gave a statement on the issue:

“We are aware of the video and have spoken with the individual, who has apologized and acknowledges using poor judgment. We have great respect for Yosemite National Park and expect all of our employees to uphold the rules and regulations that are in place to preserve and protect it.”

The video shows multiple violations in the park, which is a mostly protected ecosystem. If he left the golf ball in the meadow, it would be littering. If he went to grab it, he would trample the protected meadow that is being restored. It is currently unknown if Grisar was fired or resigned.

It’s a dual lesson for anyone who comes across this story – respect the protected lands of our wilderness and be careful what you post to social media.
