This 40 Pound Salmon Caught on the Sacramento River Looks Like a Dinosaur

The salmon runs are going nuts in Northern California right now, and there’s no better place to land a king salmon than on the Sacramento River. Fishing guides have been boasting massive catches for the past two months, but this may be the biggest we’ve seen yet.

Fishing guide Mike Rasmussen is no stranger to catching big salmon and he helped his client land an absolute beast of a fish recently. He took to social media to show off his first 40+ pounder of the season:

What an insane looking salmon! Look, I know that all fish are basically dinosaurs, but to see that thing swimming in our rivers is crazy to think about. Not only is it big, but it’s perfect pristine, not showing the wear and tear of the exhausting voyage from the Pacific Ocean to its birthplace.

Great catch, Mike!

  1. Can I just say what a relief to find somebody that truly knows what they’re talking about on the web. You certainly understand how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More and more people must look at this and understand this side of the story. I was surprised that you’re not more popular since you surely have the gift.
