The West is on Fire: New Film Documents the Lives of Surfing Firefighters in California

“I think that when people think of news here in California, they think of large-scale wildfires.”

“The entire state’s a giant match stick.”

A recently-released short documentary follows Brady Ruysschaert and Brandon Hawkins as they spend their days fighting fires and surfing the Pacific Ocean in California. The film is a testament to the nature of a firefighter – many times they are outdoor enthusiasts who like to live life on the edge.

Surfing and firefighting go so well together. Surfing keeps you in shape for fire season and they both give you an adrenaline boost like no other.

Thank you to the many brave firefighters in California and keep enjoying the pristine outdoors of our great state.

*Note: We know they are not in NorCal, but you can bet your ass they helped us out during the fires of 2018.
