The Best Photos from the Super Pink Moon in Northern California

It was a beautiful scene in the clear skies above Northern California this week, as the biggest and brightest supermoon of 2020 shined bright on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

A “Supermoon” occurs when when the moon is within 90% of pedigree, or the closest to earth in its orbit. April’s rendition is named the “Super Pink Moon,” due to the Native American tradition of naming each full moon of the year, although different tribes attributed different names to each moon. This month’s moon is named Pink due to the coming of flowers in April, but other names for the moon include Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.

The Super Pink Moon, named for the moon that traveled closest to earth this year, gave onlookers a celestial show as the most recent storms cleared at just the perfect time. And the moon did not disappoint, bringing out the most enthusiastic photographers and onlookers to view the event.

Here are some of the best photos of the Super Pink Moon from around NorCal this week:

Last nights pink super moon rise was truly amazing… the biggest moon of 2020. I am fortunate enough to have a friend @joshua_p_crites who found this location. He also did his homework to determine time and location. He was nice enough to ask me to tag along. We had a blast!!!
