Ever since human beings have looked up and seen birds flying through the air with ease, we’ve been obsessed with flight. Soaring through the air is an incredible sensation. We’ve mastered flying over NorCal landmarks in a plane but we don’t have the same mastery of flying through the air without heavy machinery… Until now.
Paragliding is a lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft where the pilot sits in a harness suspended below a fabric wing. The aerodynamics of the wing help achieve and maintain flight. Despite not using an engine, paragliding can last many hours and cover many hundreds of miles.
Air Xpansion is a great way to try paragliding in NorCal. You can either take lessons to operate your own paraglide, or go on a tandem flight with an instructor. Air Xpansion is run by Brian Kerr, who’s paragliding experience goes back to 2000. He competes in paraglide races and spends his off time as a mountain guide and wilderness ranger in the Mt. Shasta area.
