Press Release from the U.S. Forest Service:
Residents and property owners can access their properties inside the closed area between Kyburz and Meyers by obtaining a pass. The area between Kyburz and Meyers will still be closed to the public. Homeowners or residents can bring any reasonable documentation showing residency or ownership to the command posts to obtain a pass to enter the area. Passes are not available at the roadblocks on Highway 50, they must be obtained prior to driving into the closed area.
This area is still under an evacuation order and property owners cannot occupy the residences; however this opportunity can be used to examine burned properties, or secure property prior to Highway 50 opening to the public in the very near future. Many of the structures or properties have tree crews and utility crews cutting down large and dangerous trees and fire crews putting out smoldering hot spots. If you show up at your property and there are tree crews, utility crews or fire personnel in the area; make sure they know where you are at all times for your own safety.
