Snowstorm Slows Traffic on Highway 80 Over Donner Summit

The first significant storm has officially hit Northern California, and much like any other NorCal storm, it brought snowy conditions to Donner Summit.

Early in the afternoon on Monday saw the storm hit Highway 80 near Tahoe, which abruptly slowed traffic on the popular roadway between Sacramento and Tahoe. CalTrans tweeted a photo of the beginning of the storm around noon, urging drivers to use caution in the winter conditions:

Then around 1 pm, webcams showed that the snowstorm had slowed traffic along Donner Summit. Here are images from the roadway on Monday afternoon:

Also spotted today was a healthy dusting of snow on Mount Shasta:

Although it’s early in the season, this isn’t the first snow that the area surrounding NorCal has seen. On September 10, snow fell along the Mount Rose Highway:

We still have a week until the official end of summer, but it looks like Mother Nature didn’t receive the memo.
