Skiers Stranded After Chairlift Breaks Down at Northstar Resort

It was a beautiful day on the slopes for skiers and snowboarders at Northstar in Tahoe on Sunday. But for some unlucky riders, they spent the day stranded on a chairlift in 30 degree weather.

The Promised Land Express lift, which gives skiers access to the “backside” runs at Northstar, broke down at 10:42 am today, stranding the unlucky people who ended up stranded on the lift for up to 3 and a half hours.

About an hour after the shutdown of the chairlift, operations workers began evacuating riders using climbing ropes:

Some riders were able to exit the chair after only an hour, but others were stuck until workers were able to get the chair moving slowly after over 3 hours sitting in the freezing cold weather.

Cold, tired and frustrated, the stranded skiers finally exited the lift by 2 pm and were presented with a coupon for an unspecified voucher.

Whether its weather or technical difficulties, you just never know what you’re going to get when you head up to the mountain.
