This week Sacramento received it’s first Michelin Star and it’s a pretty big deal. The Kitchen restaurant in Sacramento is a dining and entertainment experience unlike any in the region and for that they were awarded one star in the illustrious Michelin Guide.
“The Kitchen in Sacramento, where executive chef Kelly McCown provides an interactive dining experience that doubles as dinner and a show, is awarded a MICHELIN star.” said the guide on Monday.
It is mere fate that Sacramento be the first Northern California city awarded a Michelin Star outside of San Francisco and wine country region. After changing the city slogan from “The City of Trees” to “America’s Farm to Fork Capital” in 2017, the city has been building momentum in the culinary community being recognized more and more as a food destination.
The dining experience offered at The Kitchen is an interactive food demonstration where diners get to witness first hand how their top notch French cuisine is cooked and plated by Chefs. The prix fixe menu is updated monthly and reservations must be booked months in advance due to popularity.
“Fantastic, show stopping experience! The food was unbelievable, the atmosphere and service was amazing. If you eat here dont eat the entire day because you get so much food and you will want to eat every last morsel!” says Yelp user Brooke B.

We at Eating NorCal hope and believe The Kitchen is setting a trend other Northern California restaurants are soon to follow. We’ve had the Michelin Stars of San Francisco and wine country for over a decade so it’s about time that culinary excellence spills out into further reaching communities in Northern California. We believe NorCal is the best area of the country when it comes to food, so it feels good to see the food and wine industry recognizing it as well.
