Officials Close Burney Falls State Park to the Public

All 280 California State Parks have been closed to vehicle access for over a week now with the condition that the parks could be closed completely if the visitation numbers didn’t decrease in the midst of California’s shelter-in-place mandate. Now, officials have taken the drastic approach of closing McArthur-Burney Falls State Memorial Park to the public due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.

The move is not much of a surprise, since Burney Falls would be difficult to visit without vehicle access and is a popular spot for daytrippers in the North Valley. Signs were posted in the area on Wednesday to alert any would-be visitor of the closure.

“Electronic message signs are currently in place well in advance of the park to alert the traveling public of the closure,” said CalTrans in a statement.

Many outdoor destinations are closing in Northern California, including Yosemite National Park and Lassen Volcanic National Park. The state is also currently in decision-making mode regarding the the opening of fishing season throughout the state, creating an echo-chamber of complaints among anglers throughout California.

Although it’s difficult, it’s probably best to stay indoors during this time.
