It’s been a snowy start the water year and much like the epic winter of 2018-19, Northern California ski resorts are leading their North American counterparts in snowpack.

As of December 20, Alpine Meadows in the Tahoe area boasts the deepest snowpack in North America with 84 inches, followed closely by its southern counterpart Mammoth Mountain with 76 inches. More Tahoe resorts fill out the remaining top 16 resorts including Squaw Valley (68 inches), Sugar Bowl (60 inches), Homewood (60 inches), Kirkwood (60 inches) and Soda Springs (60 inches).

The snowfall has fallen on the back of what was a historic winter earlier in 2019, where places like Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain broke decades old snowfall records. The hot start to the 2019-20 winter season could mean another plentiful ski season in Tahoe along with a prosperous water year for NorCal reservoirs.
