NorCal Grandmother Rescued After 10 Days Trapped in the Snowy Wilderness

Her SUV was found in Camptonville, just west of New Bullards Bar Reservoir off of Highway 49

A Marysville woman was stuck in the snow for 10 days just north of Grass Valley before being rescued. 54-year-old grandmother, Sheryl Donovan, ran out of gas while trying to get home and was without cell phone service. After 10 days of surviving on one bottle of water and some snowmelt, Donovan got our of her Ford Explorer and hiked a mile in the snow before waving down a good samaritan.

Her SUV was found in Camptonville, just west of New Bullards Bar Reservoir off of Highway 49. She used extra clothes to stay warm in what turned out to be the last wave of Miracle March dumping multiple feet of snow on the area. Her SUV remains stuck in the snow today.

“It would appear she took a right turn when she probably should have taken a left-hand turn.” Nevada County Sheriff Lt. Robert Bringolf said to CBS News.

We’re glad that Donovan made it out okay. This story goes to show the dangers of traveling in storms. When travel is necessary, be sure to pack water, snacks and warm clothes!
