From the California Highway Patrol:
On 03-30-2019, at approximately 1556 hours, Roy Werner [58, of Redway] was riding a 2004, Harley-Davidson, Heritage Softtail Classic, northbound on SR-254, just south of Cathy Road, north of the town of Miranda. For reasons still under investigation, the Werner lost control of the motorcycle, which ran off the road and overturned. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries he sustained in the collision. His passenger (Karen McCune) was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka for treatment of moderate injuries.
Personnel from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene, assumed and maintained incident command, and are investigating the collision. Personnel from Cal-Fire, Miranda Volunteer Fire Department, California Department of Transportation (Cal-Trans), California Department of State Parks, City Ambulance, and the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.
The northbound lane of SR-254 was closed for approximately two hours and one way traffic control was conducted by Cal-Fire personnel. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
