More PG&E Power Shutdowns are Expected this Weekend

It was a relatively short power shutdown this week for 179,000 PG&E customers as the power company has worked to restore power to much of those affected this week. But with more dry, windy forecasts scheduled for this weekend, an even bigger power shutdown could take place.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of Northern California from Saturday through Monday morning, signaling what has shown in the recent month as potential for power shutdowns.

PG&E has announced it could shut down the power to customers in Sierra Foothills, North Bay, Peninsula, Central Coast, East Bay and Humboldt County, but did not give a number of homes that could be affected. They did, however, provide a map and it contains many homes in NorCal:

Based on the map, homes in Shasta and Humboldt Counties, the Bay Area and all along the Sierra Foothills could see power outages all weekend.

The embattled power company has been stuck between a rock and a hard place since the revelations that it’s equipment was the cause of multiple deadly and devastating wildfires in NorCal since 2017. The company has paid the fire victims billions of dollars, and is now implementing power shutdowns to avoid being the cause of another costly fire incident.
