Missing Hiker Found Dead in the Trinity Alps Wilderness

It was a sad ending to a 5-day search and rescue mission for missing solo hiker Daniel Komins in the Trinity Alps Wilderness when he was found deceased on Sunday. The 34-year-old hiker had been last seen on August 11th and his girlfriend alerted authorities when failed to return home.

The hiker’s remains were found on a very steep terrain above Mirror Lake.

“A preliminary investigation appears to indicate that Komins may have fallen in the steep and rocky terrain,” the Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Komins, a native of Blue Lake in Humboldt County, was an experienced hiker and an Emergency Medical Technician who had embarked on a 5-day solo hiking journey near the Canyon Creek trail system on August 10, 2019. He had contacted his girlfriend by telephone on August 11, 2019, and informed her that the trip was going as planned.

Condolences to the family of Daniel Komins.
