Let’s face it. We all knew this day would come. We’re getting into the latter parts of June and it was only a matter of time before the triple-digit heat hit us in the mouth.

This part of the year is a rite of passage for anyone in Norther California, with June 21st being Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.

Following Summer Solstice, temperatures will begin to heat up on Wednesday, with much of the Northern California valley seeing triple digits through the weekend. The hottest day is forecasted for Saturday, with places like Sacramento, Redding and Marysville seeing temperatures of up to 105 degrees:

Of course, the heat can bring some dangerous situations for anyone planning to leave the comfort of their air conditioning. Here are some tips from the National Weather Service:

  • The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illness is likely.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
  • When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
  • To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
