Great news from Lassen Volcanic National Park! They have announced that they’ve finished clearing the park highway of snow and the park will be open to through traffic on Sunday, May 27th. The Hike and Bike the Highway event, which opens the road to bikers, will take place on Saturday, May 26th.
We wrote about how the road clearing was well ahead of schedule, and this opening date is right on par with the progress of the massive snow removal operation. It’s also a much earlier opening date than last year, when the park opened on July 27th. Now that the road is cleared, they will spend the next week installing signage for drivers.
With the opening of the highway, much of the park will be opened for summer activities, except Bumpass Hell, which is closed for the remainder of 2018 for renovations. The park will be opening its destinations throughout the coming month, so check with Lassen NPS to see what’s open before embarking on an adventure.
