It’s Mid-September and People Are Already Snowboarding on Mt. Shasta

Earlier in the week we reported that Mount Shasta was forecast to see up to two feet of snow this week, a quite unusual weather event in September. And while reports haven’t shown exactly how much snow fell on the mountain, some people are using the unseasonable storm to get some early turns in on the mountain.

Chris Carr of Shasta Mountain Guides posted a photo on his Instagram yesterday of a snowboarder (possibly him) riding some powder on Mt. Shasta’s Ski Bowl:

The photo got a lot of notice since it’s very rare to see someone riding the mountain this time of year. The storm brought snow to most of the mountain ranges in Northern California, with Tahoe ski resorts boasting a nice dusting and Mammoth Mountain showing off it’s near white cover:

Does this mean winter is starting early or we’re simply experiencing some weird fall weather. Only time will tell…
