As we enter the third week in November, Northern California will receive its third significant storm this month, an incredible sign for a wet winter to come.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning throughout NorCal for Tuesday and Wednesday as a wet storm enters the region that could bring up to 3 feet of snow for high elevation areas. Per usual, Lassen Volcanic National Park is forecast to see the most snow accumulation, followed by Tahoe and Mammoth. Mt. Shasta is also expected to see over a foot.

Rain will fall throughout the region on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, with 2 to 3 inches forecast for Far NorCal and the western slope of the Sierra.

Areas burned by the historic fires of NorCal are expected to see flooding issues, with a Flash Flood Watch issued in areas of the North Complex Fire.

The storm will bring with it significant wind throughout the region, with howling wind forecast along the Sierra up to 50 mph.

With the high elevation areas in NorCal already covered in snow, this storm seems like it will actually create a base that will be useful for water storage in the following water year. It’s a fantastic start to the winter, one that we can only hope will last until April. Happy winter!
