Ice Fishing at Mount Shasta’s Castle Lake

You typically won’t hear the words “ice fishing” and “Northern California” muttered in the same breath, but there’s a destination in Mount Shasta that will leave you thinking you’re in Minnesota.

Castle Lake is a beautiful reservoir sitting just south of Mount Shasta, California, that offers plenty of outdoor recreation in the summer. In the winter, it freezes over, giving NorCal a rare opportunity to catch fish through the ice.
