High Winds Transform Lake Tahoe Into a Scene from The Perfect Storm

It was a windy week throughout Northern California, but no place saw bigger gusts than the Tahoe area. In fact, Kirkwood recorded a record-setting 209 mph winds (although it has been disputed) and Alpine Meadows saw winds of 125 mph.

And down below the high-elevation mountains was Lake Tahoe, which turned from the peaceful Big Blue into a scene from The Perfect Storm. Although people were urged to avoid getting near the lake in its chaotic state, some people braved the storm to snap photos/video of the massive waves at the lake:

And as aways, some crazy people used the windy conditions for a rare surfing adventure on the lake:
