Here’s Everything You Can Do at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park this Summer

Mt. Shasta Ski Park opens for its summer season this week, offering visitors a variety of outdoor activities under the shadow of the mighty Mount Shasta. It’s the perfect way to enjoy your favorite winter mountain under the sun.

This summer, Mt. Shasta Ski Park will once again offer mountain biking, disc golf and scenic lift rides, open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. The park has also expanded its operations this year, with their brand-new Bigfoot Snack Shack and overnight stays at their Backcountry Cabin.

Here’s a breakdown of everything you can do this summer at Mt. Shasta Ski Park:

Mountain Biking

The highlight of Mt. Shasta’s summer program will be its mountain biking courses, with approximately 10 miles of lift accessed trails winding through old growth red firs, meadows, bridges over creeks all wrapped up with breathtaking panoramic views. Onsite amenities include on site bike repair, outdoor showers, food and beverages, retail shop and good company.

This year, 80 percent of the park’s mountain biking trails will be accessed via the Marmot Lift. The Douglas Life will be closed this summer for maintenance, but bikers can still ride up to access these trails. Here’s the map to the mountain biking trails:

Disc Golf

Mt. Shasta will once again offer an 18-hole disc golf course with epic downhill shots and extraordinary views. Access to all 18 holes will be on the Marmot Lift, with two trips up the lift to complete each hole. It’s described as one of the most challenging courses on the West Coast.

Scenic Rides and Hikes

For the first time this year, hike through the beautiful Red Firs on Mount Shasta on your way down from a scenic lift ride on the Marmot Lift. This brand new trail is a mellow 1.4 mile trek down the mountain to see what your favorite ski park looks like in the summer. Enjoy the wilderness and lush meadows on your beautiful hike down the mountain. You may even see Bigfoot on your way down!

Speaking of Bigfoot…

Bigfoot Snack Shack

New to Mt. Shasta this summer is their Bigfoot Snack Shack, providing mountain bikers, disc golfers and hikers an opportunity to load up on beer and munchies mid mountain. This is a game changer! In the middle of the trails down the Marmot Lift is a cafe with burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches and beverages. Talk about a great place to spend a relaxing summer day.

Backcountry Cabin

If you’re looking to get a little deeper into the wilderness this summer, look no further than Mt. Shasta’s Backcountry Cabin. Tucked just out of bounds of the ski resort (just behind the Coyote Lift, below Gray Butte) sits the backcountry cabins that can accommodate up to 7 people overnight. The cabin includes potable water, pots and pans, a two-burner stove, kerosene lights, firewood and both an indoor woodstove as well as an outdoor fire pan.

You can reach the cabins via hiking, E-Bike (they have them for rent) or you can simply request a shuttle ride to the top. While at the cabin, you can hike around, ride mountain bikes or simply take in the beauty from the slopes of the mountain.
