Forest Service Opens 12-More Campsites in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest

Gumboot Lake

Last week, Forest Service officials announced they would be reopening 37 campsites in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, just in time for the beautiful May weather and the annual tradition of camping during Memorial Day weekend. Now they have added 12 more to that list, bringing the total campsites open in the national forest to 49.

Here are the new openings that the forest service announced on Friday:

Trinity River Management Unit
• Goldfield Campground
• Mariners Roost Campground
• Ridgeville Island Campground
• Ridgeville Campground
• Ripstein Campground
• Skunk Point Group Campground

Shasta-McCloud Management Unit

The forest service is currently asking people to recreate locally. Visitors should practice self-sufficiency when visiting national forests and come prepared with all the essentials needed for your trip, including food, emergency supplies, and the ability to pack-out trash. Remember to recreate responsibly by keeping the following in mind:

• Maintaining at least six feet distancing from others

• Do not gather in groups other than those in your household and please follow the latest guidance from officials.

• Communicate with others as you pass. Alert trail users of your presence and step aside to let others pass

• Pack out your trash and leave with everything you bring in and use.
