Feather Falls and Areas Near Oroville Under Mandatory Evacuation Due to Growing Wildfire

Although the North Complex Fire (which includes the Bear and Claremont Fires) has been burning for more than 3 weeks in the Plumas National Forest, the heavy winds on Tuesday have pushed the growth of the fire to different communities in Plumas and Butte counties.

The winds have stoked the fire in an incredible fashion, pushing the flames directly towards Oroville and forcing the immediate mandatory evacuations of Feather Falls, Clipper Mills, Berry Creek, Brush Creek and Forbestown in Butte County.

The town of La Porte and Little Grass Valley Reservoir including all residents, campgrounds, and recreational facilities off Little Grass Valley Road west of Quincy La Porte Road, are also under a mandatory evacuation order.

While the fire was under 51 percent containment on Tuesday morning, the incredible winds and extreme fire conditions have pushed spot fires ahead of the containment lines, growing in size at an alarming rate. Although the fire is still 20 miles from Oroville, it’s currently moving very fast in that direction.

We will continue to update this situation as more information is made available.
