Evacuations Ordered as Sacramento River Hits Flood Stage Around NorCal

As flood fears remained prevalent throughout Northern California during Thursday’s “atmospheric river” storm, the fears are being realized in Red Bluff and outside of Chico, where the Sacramento River has began flooding.

Around noon on Thursday, the river showed signs of flooding with videos of the river looking high in Red Bluff:

Around 1 pm, the river was measured at 251.81 ft at 75,150 cubic feet per second. Flood stage is 253 ft at the Red Bluff Diversion Dam. Then, evacuations were ordered at the Woodson River RV Park in Red Bluff. KRCR News Channel 7 was on the scene to see the flooding:

Rob Elvington took to Twitter to note how high the water was near Red Bluff:

Later in the evening, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office ordered an evacuation order for all residents along the Sacramento River on River Road between Chico and Hamilton City.

“An Evacuation Warning has been issued for all residents on River Road between Chico River Road and Highway 32 due to rising water levels and possible flooding from the Sacramento River.”

Here is the area affected by the evacuations in Butte County:

With this being the beginning of then storm, we expect more closures and flooding to occur. The storm will last until Sunday.
