A Brand-New Cannabis Themed Hotel is Coming to Northern California

With the legalization of recreational cannabis in California, the area known as the Emerald Triangle in Northern California is finally embracing its literal and figurative roots. The area is known to produce the most marijuana in the country and now businesses are embracing that identity through cannabis tourism.

The Scotia Lodge, sitting right at the entrance of the Humboldt redwoods, is attempting to attract cannabis enthusiasts to the region by reopening as a marijuana friendly hotel. The resort will offer onsite cannabis delivery and areas for consumption, with room menus including gummies, candies, chocolates, pre-rolled joints and oils.

The historic hotel, which was built in 1923 as The Mowatoc Hotel, has been completely remodeled by Humboldt Social, a group who is looking to normalize cannabis and hospitality in the Emerald Triangle. The group has already opened the Humboldt Bay Social Club and Papa & Barkley Social, cannabis-themed hospitality businesses in Humboldt County.

“We’re excited for the reopening of the Scotia Lodge following the hard work our team has put into thoughtfully renovating the building to its former glory,” said Aaron Sweat, Co-Founder of Humboldt Social. “We’ve created a setting that celebrates the culture and community of Humboldt County and embraces lawful, responsible cannabis use by adults in a setting where they can relax, eat and socialize with friends and family. Our vision for the Scotia Lodge is to continue offering a unique experience for travelers and locals while respecting the Lodge’s architecture and history. We embrace our surroundings as they embrace us. Humboldt has more cannabis farms than anywhere else in the world, and we want to share that with our guests.”

The Scotia Lodge will include 22 hotel rooms and the Main + Mill Kitchen and Bar, giving visitors a complete experience in its historic setting. While it won’t be the first cannabis hotel in California, the Scotia Lodge will surely build the foundation for the Emerald Triangle to become the “Napa of Cannabis” in the United States.

“Humboldt County hotels need to create spaces for visitors to smoke cannabis. Imagine if Napa Valley didn’t offer safe places to drink wine. We are committed to taking care of our guests by offering them a legal space to consume cannabis while visiting,” explained Humboldt Social Co-Founder Amy O’Connor. “For us, normalizing cannabis in hospitality means adding hospitality assets (food and drink, spa, retail) to cannabis businesses and adding access to cannabis to hospitality locations, like easy third-party delivery options and outdoor smoking areas.”

While the Scotia Lodge is currently open to visitors, they won’t begin serving cannabis products until September. For more information on Scotia Lodge, or to make a reservation, please visit www.scotia-lodge.com and www.humboldt-social.com.
