Two Earthquakes Slam Northern California Coast in 24 Hours

At 8:53 on Saturday night, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the Northern California coast just southwest of Eureka, near the town of Petrolia. The quake was felt by thousands of residents and even caused some minor damage in some North Coast businesses.

Then at 3:39 pm on Sunday, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast near Fortuna. While smaller and a little bit further off the coast, the second quake kept residents on their toes as they wondered if more aftershocks were yet to come.

In Petrolia, the shake of Saturday’s quake sent bottles of alcohol, soda and condiments to the floor, causing a mess for the workers to cleanup:

There are no other reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami warnings are currently in place.
