Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Opening for Winter Season this Week

Winter is officially upon us in Northern California as Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is preparing to open its lifts for the winter this Friday, November 15.

The two ski resorts, which fall under the same ownership group, are hoping to see some of the historic snowfall that hit the mountains during the 2018-19 season. Squaw Valley saw the most snow in the United States last winter, breaking snowfall records in February and May. Now, they hope to use that momentum for another season on the slopes.

With the help of snowmaking this month, both the resorts will open with limited terrain. Squaw will debut the opening of First Venture and snow tubing while Alpine Meadows will open its Kangaroo chairlift.

This season, Squaw Alpine will debut its brand-new Treeline Cirque chairlift at Alpine Meadows, which will grant easier access to more of the resort’s backcountry terrain.

Although the opening is in sight, there is still no sight of natural snow in the coming days. Forecasts show no precipitation coming to the Tahoe area for the remainder of November, so we may have to wait for epic powder days like this:
