Sierra Nevada’s Resilience IPA and Relief Fund have Raised $8.4 Million for Camp Fire Victims

During the fires of 2018, a new trend emerged in Northern California when local breweries used craft beer to raise money for wildfire victims. Following the devastating Camp Fire a little over a year ago, Sierra Nevada has taken the trend to a whole new level.

The craft brewery giant out of Chico announced that in the year following the Camp Fire that destroyed the entire town of Paradise, the money raised from its Resilience Butte County Proud IPA has surpassed more than $8.4 million for the victims. The brewery has proven that although it’s become a staple in the national beer scene, its roots remain in Northern California.

In the days following the fire, Sierra Nevada released the Resilience IPA, with all proceeds going to Camp Fire victims, and inspired 1,400 craft breweries to sign up and help in the brewing and distribution of the beer. The beer would end up raising millions of dollars in aid, one pint at a time.

The trend of raising money through craft beer was brought to prominence by five Shasta County breweries following the Carr Fire. They collaborated to create the Shasta Strong IPA, with all the proceeds going to Carr Fire victims.

The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the history of California. It covered an area of 153,336 acres and destroyed 18,804 structures, mostly in Paradise, California.
