Search for Missing Kayaker on Trinidad Harbor Ends Tragically

The search for a missing kayaker in Trinidad Harbor ended tragically today as officials were able to recover the body of 19-year-old Nicholas Brunner.

The kayaker went missing from the Luffenholtz Beach area on Friday and a coordinated search was launched throughout the weekend. The extensive searches covered over 490-square miles of Trinidad Bay over 20 hours. On Sunday morning, the search ended after divers were able to recover the body.

“It is with a sad but grateful heart I can say we found Nick,” said Jae Wood on Facebook today. “The dive team this morning work diligently with the family to locate him.”

On Friday night, Brunner’s camo Hobie Outback kayak and life jacket had been found the bay, indicating that he was in serious trouble in the Pacific Ocean. Officials want to remind the public to always wear your life jacket while on the ocean, as separating from it can be deadly.

Rest in peace, Nick.
