Following a horrendous water year and a historic drought throughout Northern California, Mother Nature is bringing a ray of hope to the entire region in the form of rain and snow. The storms should alleviate the ongoing fire season and help replenish low water levels of local waterways.

The first storm is expected to enter the North Coast on Sunday afternoon and move into the valley in the evening. Snow is expected to fall on Mount Shasta, Lassen Peak and the Sierra, with up to a foot of snow in high-elevation areas. Chain controls are expected over the Sierra on Highway 80 and U.S. 50, and winter driving conditions could be seen in Lassen Volcanic National Park:

Meanwhile, lower elevation areas could see nearly an inch of rain through Monday, with the North Coast seeing 0.7 inches. Places like Burney and Grass Valley should see significant rainfall, with lesser showers forecast for Redding, Sacramento and Chico. Here are the rainfall forecasts for NorCal cities:

Such great news! What’s even better? Another storm is forecast to arrive around Wednesday, which should be even bigger! Here’s the 7-day forecast for Northern California regions:

Buckle up. It’s gonna be a wet week in NorCal!
