Massive Waves up to 50-Feet Forecast for Northern California Beaches

As a series of storms make their way into Northern California, the National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning from 9 am Sunday to 9 pm Monday, with waves forecast to be up to 50 feet on some beaches.

Officials have warned residents on the coast from the Bay Area all the way up to the North Coast that the threat of high swells could be dangerous for any people, or animals, who choose to venture near or into the water in the coming week.

“A High Surf Warning indicates that dangerous, life-threatening waves will impact the shoreline,” the NWS notice said. “It is advised that people remain off of and away from the shoreline during this event.”

The waves were expected to be so intense early this week that organizers of the Mavericks Surf Competition said that they won’t host the competition until possibly later in the week in fear of dangerous swells.
