Interstate 80 Closed at Alta Due to Snowstorm Induced Collisions

After much hype, the massive snowstorm has hit Northern California and traffic conditions are already being hindered. Chain controls are being reported all over NorCal, from Mount Shasta to Mammoth, but the roads near Tahoe are already closing down.

Early Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol announced chain controls on Interstate 80. Right after that announcement, they announced the road had been closed due to multiple collisions:

As you can see from the below graphic, there are a lot of collisions on the road right now.

The storm just started and already a closure?! It’s going to be a long week in NorCal. Please use extreme caution if planning on traveling in the area this week.
