GoFundMe Raises $250K for 5 Children Whose Parents Were Killed By Fallen Redwood in Northern California

Following a tragic incident where Jessica and Jake Woodruff were killed by a falling redwood tree near the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, a GoFundMe has raised $250,000 to support their five children. You can donate to the GoFundMe here.

The freak accident occurred on Highway 199 in Del Norte County on March 25, where the Woodruffs were struck by the tree driving southbound in a 2016 Honda Accord. The redwood was so big, it completely crushed the driver and passenger area of the car. The two were visiting the coastal area from their home in Yreka for Jessica’s birthday.

36-year-old Jake and 45-year-old Jessica leave behind five children, which the money from the GoFundMe will go to support their lives. Here is an excerpt from the fundraiser:

Jessica and Jake Woodruff were fatal victims after a redwood tree fell on their car as they drove along Route 199,  while on an annual trip up the coast for Jessica’s 45th birthday. Leaving behind their children, Megan, Evan, Casey, Allie, and Chelsea. This was a shocking and unexpected event, and the tragedy of this accident makes it difficult to accept as real. These 5 children are now left without parents and are facing a lifetime of expenses. We are asking that anyone who can support them, please do so, as these children are facing the devastating reality of what was just ripped from their lives in a split second. Those of you who know this family, know how tight-knit they are, and their lives will forever be changed. Thank you for your consideration, support, and condolences during this unbelievable time.
