The residents and merchants of Eureka, on California’s north coast, are celebrating the mighty Pacific Ocean and one of it’s most pristine inlets, Humboldt Bay, at the Eureka Salt and Fog Fish Festival.

Situated along Eureka’s historic and picturesque waterfront, this three day event pays homage to Eureka’s seafaring and ocean-fishing heritage while showcasing it’s best restaurants and seafood vendors with eats and bites utilizing storied recipes and local, underwater ingredients: Dungeness crab, Kumamoto and Pacific oysters, Cabazone, lingcod, and red and black rock fish to name just a few; some of the freshest and most delicious seafood to be had anywhere on the West Coast. Foodies take note!

“Humboldt is internationally renown for our redwoods and our cannabis, with a growing reputation for oysters, chocolate, goat cheese, grass-fed beef and an array of amazing, world-class foodstuffs,” said Alanna Powell, Executive Director of Humboldt Made. “Combined with Eureka’s rich heritage of seafaring and seafood, it’s only natural we want to share this bounty with the outside world. So whether it’s a romantic couples getaway, or a fun and unique foodie adventure, or just plain and simple family fun, the Salt and Fog Seafood Fest will deliver. It’s going to be a blast AND extremely yummy!”

The festival kicks-off Friday night with a self-guided Pub Crawl in and around Eureka’s victorian ‘Old Town.’ Tune into our website just before the event to view our official Pub Crawl map with participating establishments.

On Saturday, head to Madaket Plaza on Eureka’s bay-front, to find lively live music, a seafood chowder throw-down, Humboldt’s much lauded and award-winning craft beers and distilled spirits, Madaket Ferry rides along the Bay (with the smallest licensed bar in California); Tall Ships visiting from Gray’s Harbor Historical Seaport and a sea-battle reenactment, yacht races, and the opportunity to engage with Humboldt artisans, makers, producers, and growers, in a street-market setting.

On Sunday, clear your head and body with the ‘Fish Out of Water’ 5k. Post race, treat yourself to a Bloody Mary, just down the street or around a corner in lovely Old Town. If you’ve had your fill of food and drink, visit Sequoia Park Zoo in a grove of old-growth and second growth redwoods, the oldest accredited zoo in the State and a guaranteed charmer for all ages. Or take the 50 minute drive along scenic 101, south to the spectacular Rockefeller Forest or north to Redwood National Park. These are the biggest, tallest, and most awe-inspiring coast redwoods anywhere.

  1. I love your news and miss living in the NoCal. Had to move back to SoCal where family is. I hate SoCal but we are sailors and we do like the warmer clearer skies here. Still my heart and soul belong to NoCal so thanks for the mini visits.
