Why should I join Active NorCal as a Writer?

Writers join the platform to publish journalistic articles, create top local outdoor and sports content and promote positive activities in our Northern California community. Some of these writing positions are unpaid. Your experience and ideas/articles submitted will determine pay. This is a way to get your articles and photography published or to promote a local event/activity. Tell us about your adventures!

Editorial Guidelines

1. How do I become a writer for Active NorCal?

Write an article or an article idea down and send it to zach@www.activenorcal.com. We will contact you after you submit your first article and offer some direction and tips on how to make your second article even better than your first. We typically cover the California areas from Yosemite to the Oregon border, with a little room for destinations at a close drive away.

2. Who can write articles on Active NorCal?

Anyone can write articles, share pictures and videos. If you want to write about a recent trip to a destination, a local sports team, your favorite local hike or a great local event – feel free to send it over.

3. How do I pick a topic?

Please look through our years of content on Activenorcal.net before deciding on a topic. Certain topics can be found by the search box on the top right of the site.

We have found that these topics often generate the most reads:

  • A specific NorCal hike
  • Real-time stories regarding outdoor experiences
  • Opinion pieces on local outdoor controversy
  • Waterfalls
  • Outdoor activities in specific locations (i.e. snowboarding Bunny Flats, swimming in Castle Lake)
  • Lists of great hikes and activities
  • Local sports profiles

4. What if I already have a blog?

Include in your blog’s name at the bottom of each article and a brief summary of what you write about and which topics you cover. Our editorial team will review submissions and if your blog is up to snuff, we’ll contact you for further information. Please note that not every submission is accepted, and that we may review and remove your RSS feed at any time.

Feel free to send us any questions or comments you may have. We would love to hear your input!

Cheers!
